Captain Shihab Al-Zaid holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, focusing on Industrial/Organizational Psychology, as well as a Master of International Management with an emphasis on Cross-Cultural Considerations.
His impressive 32-year aviation career began in commercial operations as a program coordinator for a legacy flag carrier. After a few years, he earned his Commercial Pilot's License along with a Frozen Airline Transport Pilot's License, starting his journey as an ab-initio pilot within the Airbus fleet.
Throughout his flying career, he continued to operate within the Airbus fleet, handling short, medium, and long-haul sectors. Following his upgrade to command, he transitioned to the Flight Safety and Quality Assurance section, where his educational background harmonized with his professional experience, reigniting his passion for organizational safety.
He received extensive training in Internal Auditing, IOSA Auditing, Flight Safety Investigation, Air Accident Investigation, Fatigue Risk Management, and Safety Management Systems, primarily through IATA, culminating in a Diploma in Safety Management Systems for Airlines.
In addition to his flying responsibilities, he took on the role of head of the Flight Data Monitoring and Flight Safety Research Group. After several years in that capacity, he was appointed Head of Flight Safety Audits, serving as the lead auditor for IOSA Flight, Dispatch, and Cabin disciplines. He later advanced to Deputy Operations Director for Flight Safety and Quality Assurance, with additional responsibilities that included training operational staff in the corporate Safety Management System.
